Shortly after becoming President, I formed a Visioning Committee to help determine the future direction of the Lehigh Saengerbund. This was an important process as it helped to identify what was unique and what was appealing about the LSB. The Visioning group determined that organizationally we needed to return to our traditions by doing the following:
- reemphasize our heritage and our cultural roots,
- attract members with diverse interests
- attract younger families
During the past year we have embarked upon this renewed direction. Thanks to the Knights of Columbus we have returned to Allentown, our home, and have full use of a wonderful facility with a dedicated full time staff. We are attracting new members, both young and senior , with diverse cultural interests. We are emphasizing our cultural roots through many new activities. The Kaffeeklatsch, Spielgruppe, St Nikolaustag, Stammtisch, and the Lehigh German Symposium attest to this reinvigorated emphasis on our heritage and culture. Our chorus, now located primarily at Muhlenberg College, is strong and talented and continues to expand. Most importantly, we expect to sponsor additional activities emphasizing our heritage and culture during the coming years.
To add an element of formality and to clearly communicate our philosophy we’ve developed Vision and& Mission statements The purpose of Vision and Mission statements are to provide focus and guidance to our officers and members as we continue to prosper. The Vision statement essentially tells us what we’d like to be, while the Mission statement identifies who we are. I ask you to review these statements and to comment on their relevance to the future of our Society.
Mit besten Grüßen
