The Lehigh Saengerbund is hosting the 51st National Sängerfest from June 1st through June 3rd, 2012, with the concert on Saturday, June 2, 2012 at 4:00 PM at Allentown Symphony Hall.
For this event, over 200 singers from more than 20 German-American singing societies throughout the northeastern United States will join with the Lehigh Saengerbund chorus under the direction of Mr. Ed Milisits, II and Dr. Nelson Fritts, and will be accompanied by a 30-piece orchestra.
For out of town participants a Sängerfest special sleeping room rate has been arranged at the Holiday Inn, Allentown, Center City of $108.90 ($99 + tax) per night for either 1 King Size Bed or 2 Double Beds. To participate as a singer requires membership in the Nordöstlicher
Sängerbund von Amerika, Inc (the NOSB) plus purchase of a singer's badge ($25 by 2/29/2012 or $30 thereafter). Singers may also purchase guest badges ($30) for non-singers. These badges grant admission to the concert on Saturday and a picnic on Sunday. Admission ticket (handled by the Allentown Symphony Hall) to the concert only on Saturday is $20 for all attendees who do not have a singer's or guest badge.
Social events include dinner, rehearsal and entertainment on Friday night, the Grand Banquet on Saturday night and a picnic on Sunday. The full meal package which includes Saturday and Sunday breakfast and the 2 dinners is $150 paid by 2/29/2012 or $160 thereafter. Those wishing to attend only the Grand Banquet may do so for $60 paid by 2/29/2012 or $65 thereafter.
A special tradition is the host chorus raffle. Please see any Lehigh Saengerbund chorus member to purchase raffle tickets ($1 each). You need not be present at the drawing to win, and there are several wonderful prizes available, including:
1st prize: Two (2) round-trip tickets to Germany (courtesy of Air Berlin)
2nd prize: Apple iPad
3rd prize: 32-inch HDTV
A second tradition is purchase of ads in the program book that is distributed to all singers, guests and concert attendees. A simple 1/8th page ad is available for $25 and is typically a personal message of best wishes or in memory of a departed loved one. Other ads are $40 for quarter page, $70 for half-page and $125 for full page. All ads will be in black and white and must be sent in finished electronic form.
Ways in which Lehigh Saengerbund members can help include attending the concert and encouraging family and friends to come out as well. There will also be many additional opportunities for more active help during the coming months and especially at the time of the Sängerfest.
The Sängerfest is much more than a concert. It has typically been a gala celebration of German-American heritage and traditions.
